ELIGIBILITY:

  • All athletes must present proof of current USA Wrestling Membership Card at check-in. To purchase a USAW Wrestling Membership Card, ONLINE go to www.usawmembership.com or click HERE. Alternatively, Membership Cards can be acquired from the State Chairperson or State Membership Director of the contestant’s state of residence, but will be available for purchase at event registration for $40.00. Secondary sports accident insurance is provided as a benefit of membership. No pre-qualification required. Foreign athletes are eligible and encouraged to compete in the Western Junior Regional Championships.  However, they must posses a current USA Wrestling competitor’s membership card.

WESTERN JUNIOR

Regional Championships:

  • A Western Junior Division athlete shall be considered eligible to compete in Junior Division competitions if he/she was born September 1, 1989 and after and is currently attending high school GRADES 9-12, or participating in a program considered by the State’s Department of Education to be fulfilling the athlete’s requirements for graduation from an accredited high school program, or if a summer event, attended high school, or participated in a program considered by the State’s Department of Education to be fulfilling the athlete’s requirements for graduation from an accredited high school program in the “Spring” semester just prior to the summer event. In addition, the athlete has only four consecutive years to complete in the Junior Division once his class begins the ninth grade. 
  • ABSOLUTELY NO 8TH GRADERS ALLOWED.
  • Weight divisions are:
  • 98, 105, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, and 285 lbs.
  • No weight allowance will be given.  Registration


EVENT LODGING:

  • To reserve rooms through the LVSC and to receive the discounted registration fee, rooms must be booked through the following toll free numbers and only at the hotels listed. REGISTRATION:

  • ALL ATHLETES, IN ALL DIVISIONS, MUST REGISTER ON-LINE BEFORE TUESDAY, APRIL 7TH, 2009 AT 9:00 AM (Pacific Standard Time). There will be no on-site or late registration --- NO EXCEPTIONS.

STANDARD ENTRY FEES:

  • Those participants NOT reserving hotel rooms through the LVSC Event Lodging must pay the standard entry fees: Registration

    $35.00– Junior Freestyle/Greco-Roman (Per Style)

DISCOUNTED ENTRY FEES:

  • Those participants reserving hotel rooms through the LVSC Event Lodging will pay the following discounted entry fees: Registration

    $25.00– Junior Freestyle/Greco-Roman (Per Style)
    REFER TO THE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE FOR REGISTRATION DATES AND TIMES

WEIGH-INS:

  • All athletes must be present at the BEGINNING of weigh-ins. Athletes competing in both styles will only weigh-in once for both events. This is contingent on the athlete actively competing in the first wrestling style scheduled.
  • Athletes competing in one style must weigh in at the official weigh-in for that style. Athletes must weigh-in wearing a COMPETITION SINGLET (Modified singlets will not be allowed for weigh-ins).
  • No weight allowance will be given.
  • Each athlete will be allowed two consecutive attempts to make weight, and may not leave the weigh-in room.
  • No second day weigh-ins.  See schedule for weigh-in times.

INFECTIOUS SKIN SCREENING:

  • Athletes must be present in a COMPETITION SINGLET and must submit to a skin disease screening prior to weigh-ins. The chief medical officer has full authority, without appeal, in determining the eligibility of an athlete to compete. See schedule for medical check times.

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:

  • Attractive awards will be presented to the top six (6) Junior division place winners in each style, in each weight class. Outstanding Wrestler Awards will be presented in each style.

RULES:

  • The rules of FILA, with current USA Wrestling modifications where applicable, will govern the event.

UNIFORMS:

  • Red and blue singlets, or red/blue reversible singlets with under briefs are required. (NO T-SHIRTS).

PAIRINGS:

  • In the Junior division, there will be a blind computer draw after the initial weigh-in. Wrestlers from the same state will be separated when possible in vertical pairing system. Weight classes with five (5) or less entries will use a one (1) pool system and weight classes with six (6) or more entries will use a two (2) pool system.

INJURIES:

  • In the event of injury or illness, NO contestant will be permitted to continue the competition without approval of the Chief Medical Officer, whose decision is final and not subject to appeal.

COACHING:

  • For all divisions, only NCEP Certified coaches BRONZE or higher, with a current USAW Wrestling Coaches Membership are entitled to purchase a “Coaches Floor Pass”.  Coaches Floor Pass will be sold at “Coaches Registration” for $10.00 each.  Coaches must report to the “Coaches Registration” counter (located immediately outside the venue entrance) with photo identification, current USA Wrestling Coaches Membership card and NCEP Certification card BRONZE or higher to purchase a Coaches Floor Pass.   COACHES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED IN THE CORNER OF A MAT WITHOUT A PROPER CREDENTIAL.
  • REMINDER:  All USA Wrestling Coaches Membership Cards MUST be attained prior to the event, due to mandatory background checking.
